FREQUENT EMERGENCY SCENARIOS
Orthodontic emergencies are usually very simple fixes to something that may be bothering the patient. They usually are a broken brace. loose wire, or something poking the gum or cheek. Below are some quick fixes.
SORE OR ACHY TEETH
Some patients complain of SORE OR ACHY TEETH during treatment and it does take some time for lips, cheeks, and teeth to get use to your new braces. This soreness can usually be resolved with a tylenol or advil and sticking with soft foods such as soup or mashed potatoes.
BRACE SLIDING ON THE WIRE
If you see a BRACE SLIDING on the wire or missing from your tooth and it is not causing any discomfort just give us a call so we can repair it as soon as possible.
WIRE POKING ON YOUR CHEEK
If the WIRE IS POKING YOUR CHEEK, this may a good thing since your teeth are starting to align. You can use a piece of wax to cover it until you see us in the office.
WIRE IS POKING YOUR GUM
If the hook for elastics or a WIRE IS POKING YOUR GUM you can try to cover it with a piece of wax or push the wire away from your gum with a pencil eraser.
RETAINER IS BROKEN
If your RETAINER IS BROKEN OR DOESN’T FIT, please come in as soon as possible so your teeth do not move. If the cemented retainer is broken in one spot or poking you, a piece of wax will alleviate any discomfort until you can see us in the office.
